Guide To Investment

Just as there are a variety of individuals and organizations that support Island Opera Theatre, there are a variety of ways to give. And as we are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, charitable gifts are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Gifts of Cash, Check, and by Credit Cards

There are many advantages to these types of gifts:

• Simple and quick transactions
• Income tax deduction eligibility
• Immediate use of the gift for Island Opera's production and educational needs

Gifts of Appreciated Property

These gifts, whether real estate or securities, may provide the donor with an additional financial benefit. By offering a gift of stock, donors can take a tax deduction of their stock's fair market value on the day it is received in our account, rather than having to pay capital gains on its sale (always consult with your tax accountant before making a gift of property or stock). The advantages of appreciated property gifts are:

• The opportunity to make a substantial gift to Island Opera Theatre
• Income tax deduction eligibility
• Avoidance of capital gains tax
• Immediate use of the gift for Island Opera's production and educational needs

Gifts of Tangible Personal Property

A gift of personal property - furniture, artwork, paint and production materials, vehicles, etc., will be considered by Island Opera Theatre for use in production design and/or development, operations, and education programs. They may also be sold or offered in silent auctions to raise cash for use by Island Opera Theatre. Such gifts can be deductible for their fair market value (depending on the satisfaction of IRS regulations). The advantages of gifts of tangible property include all those previously listed.

Matching Gifts

If you work for, or own, a company that matches employee contributions, you can make your gift double or triple in cash value to Island Opera Theatre, while you receive benefits equal to the gift, plus the value of your company's match. Simply pick up a matching gift form from your company's human resources office, mail the completed form to us, and we'll take care of the rest.

Honor Roll

Island Opera patrons now have the option to support us with gifts through their will, life insurance, retirement, or estate plans. By including Island Opera in this way, donors not only assure that their loved ones can be provided for in the best way possible, but also invest in Island Opera Theatre in perpetuity. Including Island Opera Theatre in your estate plans insures your membership on the Island Opera Theatre Honor Roll, which, in turn, assures the future success of our company.
